Thanks for the info. I expected that something like a universal chip was probably a bit further into the future, but it does seem intriguing doesn't it? It seems every time I turn around there is a new vendor offering a dual mode, or triple mode phone tied to some particular technology and/or frequency range.

It would seem, from my perspective, that this ongoing process, taken to it's ultimate conclusion, would give you a single chipset with a whole set of wireless methodologies integrated into it. This would mean a carrier could have a number of different infrastructure technologies installed, and a user would only have one phone that depending on the best local coverage at a given time(based on either cost or signal quality), then the chip could switch you over and start operating on that part of the chip.

My best guess would be that this is probably something that LSI's G12 fab. process may enable... but we'll see. If nothing else, it's nice to speculate.
