Well, I can see you haven't even considered the underlying problems which Java solves and how it solves them. Instead, you're taking an existing solution and scratching your head in an effort to discover what all the fuss is about as though the laundry list of companies which have given it considerable thought and spent billions testing their ideas hadn't bothered to scratch theirs. It sounds like you're taking the failed, ad hoc, bailing gum and chewing wire client-server technology which preceded Java and trying to paint Java as another such attempt.

If only IBM, Oracle, Sony, Motorola and Sun had consulted you before getting messed up in this, we wouldn't have Java and we wouldn't have Citrix either since Microsoft would not have supported it and done everything within their power to stop it. Stop jumping up and down for a minute and give Java some careful consideration and a broader perspective. I think you'll find that terminals are a proper subset of Java-based devices; in other words, super-terminals over which "regular" terminals offer NOTHING and look a bit silly in comparison.
