As a follower of Oracle, I have noticed a propensity for management, and in particular Larry Ellison to be as 'optimistic' as possible in all his public pronouncements. So the cautionary statements reflect an almost begrudging confession that license growth will not be as robust as last quarter.
I think there was a big push put on to make it a good quarter, the downside is the next might suffer because of exhausted demand. This will pressure the stock, probably keeping it below thirty for the next few months.
The good news is management realizes the necessity of growing their applications business at Baan and Peoplesoft levels. I read Ellison is taking a personal role in the leadership of that arm of the business.
Over time Oracle will appreciate significantly from its current position. I think the fact that the stock has really lagged the overall market and other techs over the last twelve months is a positive with lots of upside potential. I just wonder when.
