Quarterdeck's DiskClone Now Shipping to Retail Stores
Ideal for Safe and Easy Migration to Windows 98 or New PCs
MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 1998-- Quarterdeck Corp. (Nasdaq:QDEK - news), the world's leading provider of PC helpware solutions, Tuesday announced that DiskClone has shipped and is available for purchase.
As users upgrade to new operating systems such as Windows 98, or to new PCs, DiskClone is the best way to transfer data as it saves every file, folder, partition and program setting and duplicates it to the new PC.
According to industry research firm International Data Corp., 16 million to 18 million computer users will upgrade from Windows 95 and 3.x to Windows 98 during its first year of release, and the majority of these users will require new, larger hard drives to run their systems at optimum levels. DiskClone is ideal for upgrades, as it copies an old hard drive to a new one.
For Windows 98 and Windows NT workstation deployments, disk cloning is the fastest and safest way to replicate and back-up PCs. Using DiskClone Extra Strength and DiskClone Corporate, scheduled to ship at the end of May, for multiple upgrades can result in significant time savings as one PC is configured and then used to replicate the image to multiple PCs.
''Our line of DiskClone products makes PC and operating system upgrades as fast and seamless as possible by reducing the time and frustration associated with upgrades,'' said Sherry Katz, senior product manager at Quarterdeck.
Pricing and Availability
DiskClone Regular Strength is currently available at an estimated street price of $39.95 before applying an introductory special $10 mail-in rebate. DiskClone Extra Strength is scheduled to ship at the end of May. Both versions will be available at major computer software retailers, including CompUSA, Best Buy, Computer City and Fry's Electronics as well as through Quarterdeck's on-line store at www.quarterdeck.com.
Quarterdeck will also offer DiskClone Corporate, which will include network support and scripting for multiple installs, through VARs and corporate resellers at the end of May. Further information on DiskClone Corporate can be obtained by calling 800/225-8148.
System Requirements
DiskClone minimum requirements include an IBM PC or compatible (80386 or higher), VGA or higher resolution monitor, two internal hard drives (DiskClone Regular Strength), 350 KB of free DOS RAM and 2 MB of memory beyond 640 K, 4 MB of RAM (16 MB for FAT 32 and NTFS). DiskClone supports Windows 98, 95, 3.1, NT, OS/2, Netware, UNIX and DOS.
