You can also make additional cash purchases every month. The company collects money all month (from people sending in checks or from people who opted to have the company automatically deduct a specified amount from your their bank accounts) and purchases shares on the 10th of the month. They actually begin buying in the few days prior, but the price of MO at the close on the 10th is the actual purchase price for the DRIP.

There are no brokerage charges for MO's DRIP, at least none that I am aware of; however, there may be a small per share fee when purchasing (like $.03 per share) but I don't remember reading that in the Plan prospectus.

Its a good way to constantly add more MO to your portfolio without paying commissions. I prefer to buy MO this way, because the shares are not going to move for some time, and it is a good way to buy for the long haul....
