I'm still a bit surprised, as it has performed well today as well.

But I'm waiting for the optimal (in my eyes) short, which I have as either at 12, 12:40 or 2:25 ET.

It would be a pleasant surprise if %R agrees; but as you say, it's not designed to pick shorts in uptrending markets. However, perhaps because I have applied it down to 5 minute ticks it may have created an environment for itself where the trend is encapsulated in a microcosm of the overall bullish trend.

That is to say, I have 81 ticks each day. So my trending market in one day equates to 4 months for someone watching it on a daily basis.

Right or wrong, anyway, it has become a nice tool as a confirming indicator for me. Thanks for reminding me of it. There are so many indicators out there it's hard to try to understand all of them, much less backtest or apply them with any confidence.
