Found this in New York Newsday: Is this good or bad for us?:

Thumbs up for ESPN's new Bat Track, which calculates bat speed.
Until now, baseball fans and managers relied on scouts to determine
whether a veteran player's swing has slowed during his career. So
there's no immediate reference point for ESPN to compare current speed
to former speed. But by August and September - and certainly in years to come - the graphic should be a useful barometer.
