Deployment of Faroudja's Digital Format Translator for TV Station Group Owner

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--April 7, 1998--NAB Conference, Booth No. M5838--Faroudja Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:FDJA - news)
Tuesday announced that Tribune Broadcasting has signed a letter of intent to test, evaluate and reserve for purchase a number of Faroudja's new Digital Format
Translators from its Video Solutions line.

The Digital Format Translator provides a range of modular solutions for the delivery of a variety of digital television (DTV) and high-definition television (HDTV)
video formats to help clients provide new digital television services.

Tribune Broadcasting, owned by Tribune Co. (NYSE:TRB - news), owns and operates 16 major market television stations and has FCC approval pending on
stations in Seattle and Grand Rapids, Mich. Tribune Entertainment, a subsidiary of Tribune Broadcasting, develops, produces and syndicates first-run television
programming.

Tribune Broadcasting's stations are affiliated with The WB Television Network, FOX, ABC and CBS.

''Faroudja's Digital Format Translator serves a unique and critical function in the operation of a television station group that has diverse network affiliations,'' noted
Ira Goldstone, vice president-Engineering of Tribune.

''While different networks may elect to adopt any one of the new digital formats, utilization of the Digital Format Translators at the stations ensures the translation of
local programming and library content into the appropriate HDTV-quality video, whatever the choice of format.''

Mike Moone, president and chief executive officer of Faroudja, commented: ''The Digital Format Translator provides HDTV-quality video in a variety of formats,
including 480p, 720p and 1080i, from today's analog (NTSC) and digital sources. Broadcasters can continue to use much of their existing equipment, saving
millions of dollars in capital per station.''

Many of Faroudja's patented technologies are incorporated into the Video Solutions Digital Format Translator line, including Faroudja's broadcast decoder, noise
reducer, de-interlacer, scaler and video enhancer.
