Last night I e-mailed thestreet.com regarding the Mavis math rig count. This is the response I received.

Haberjack,

here's the corrected paragraf we've published concerning our mistake in the ESV story. the coastal thesis remains correct. our recitation of the Baker Hughes data was incorrect.

<p>The weekly Baker Hughes Rig Count, released Friday, although showing a gain of 12 rigs drilling in the Gulf over the same time last year, indicated a drop of 43 rigs in the total U.S. rig count over the same time period last year. In the U.S., there were 89 fewer rigs drilling for oil, while the number of rigs drilling for gas was actually up 44 over last year.
<p>(as originally published, this article incorrectly stated there were 43 fewer rigs drilling in the Gulf of Mexico compared with the same time period last year.)
