Jim,
You are assuming CPQ gets chips before DELL. It ain't so. When INTC introduces a new chip they both get it the same day. Three days later those chips are in the machines going out Dell's door. CPQ may be shipping them that fast too but even if they are they still take weeks to get to the customer opposed to 3 to 5 days for DELL.

As for getting paid, in my experience (one for me, three for my friends) Dell gets paid before the order goes to the factory floor, credit card or wire transfer. Dell only owns inventory from the loading dock to the shipping dock, 4 to 7 days. As soon as the machine leaves the factory it belongs to the customer.

I don't know how they deal with large customers ie. Ford, Boeing etc. but you blowing smoke with your questions of the day. Why don't you go to Dell's site, do a little research and save us all a lot of aggravation.
