I2, re: <<Does it have a timer or an alarm function?>> Yes it does. The timer is a 1 event, 1 day timer. You can set the start and stop time to any value, the recorder automatically shuts off at the end of the tape. One disadvantage is that you cannot set the timer for the day that you want to record. I have overcome this by plugging another multi-day timer into the wall and the recorder into that timer. This way I can leave Thursday for a long weekend and record on Saturday. The Reel Talk timer is electronic and battery operated so that when the wall timer is off the RT-101 timer does not reset. All-in-all the Reel Talk radio is no where near as sophisticated as a VCR but it was all that I could find and it does do the job. -Don
