We've come full circle.

First there was dedicated digital hardware designed to perform a single task.

In the 1970s, Intel developed the general purpose microprocessor designed to be programmable so it could perform multiple tasks.

Many companies including CUBE offer dedicated hardware to perform specific function, because it offers the best price/performance for the application.

Now Intel is pushing its general purpose processor to perform a single task -- digital TV. Although complicated by various formats, DTV is still a single application. Have the price/performance economics changed while we weren't looking?
