Space Cadet and Joey Two-Cents,

How do you decide whether a correction is the real deal or will be countered by the Buy-the-Dipsters, who will bring it to new highs?

The question is an important one for short sellers eventually looking to cover.

Some are predicting a pullback to 8,000, then a run on 10,000. Others see a pullback to 5,700, while others see a Big Kahuna to Dow 1000 or so.

Incidentally, I'd like to point out that this Dow number is very fake. It's adjusted all the time for splits, and companies are replaced by new ones. Lately (or perhaps always) the bias of these replacements has been bullish. The two Dow Jones guys responsible for it pull the underperforming companies, and add ones that have seen strong growth.
