BTW, MONACO, about hot-plug PCI. Paul as usual
is as accurate as farting at the moon (sorry for
strong language). The problem with PCI is not
the electricals as Paul noted - the electricals
were solved long time ago with hot-swappable
disk drives. The major problem with PCI is
that it has to be configured after power-on:
all PCI devices and PCI buses must be enumerated,
memory and I/O resources must be allocated,
interrupts assigned, etc. This is done during
boot up of the machine, and is not dynamically
reconfigurable. There must be even more problems
with operating system itself besides the PCI
recinfiguration. Intel was heading the PCI commitee
and overlooked (turned down) this important
functionality. Now Comaq is taking the lead.
Hope this helps.
