1) Agree that small devices will become very popular.

2) Come on, Jay, MSFT can't make sure that PalmPilot is not compatible with 95/NT/CE. The necessary APIs are published and anyone can write software that talks to Win32.

3) Now you're saying that MSFT is able to disallow 3Com from making PalmPilot compatible, but can allow a 3rd party to bridge the gap? Jeez, do you know what you're saying now?

4) Not sure what off-line or on-line browsers have to do with anything? MSFT isn't obligated to port IE to PalmPilot, if that's what you're getting at. So if 3Com wants a browser they can build/license one of their own.

Regardless, I still maintain that Microsoft Windows-PC dominance doesn't translate to dominance on small devices. Basically, the main thing that Microsoft has got going for them in that space is their brand name. Nothing wrong with that. (And need I mention that the Microsoft brand name is also a negative in many circumstances?)
