Without wishing to sound cynical... AMD is always going to be profitable next Q... LETS TALK SCENARIOS HERE... AMD is projecting it is going to be profitable because of their K-6 biz which is gangbusters. THE REASONS.... yeilds are good and improving AND they are successfully transitioning to 25um AND there will be MORE 300Mgz in the product mix next Q.... OK ... WHAT DOES THAT TELL US... IT TELLS US THAT THE PRICE OF A PRESARIO WITH 300mgzzz inside will fall to $800... NOW AMD HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL in gaining low-end mkt share cause intel was caught flat footed... INTEL is rich... to protect its franchise it will reduce margins and just produce... profits be dammed... because as AMD starts to gear up 300mgzzzzz CPU's its core biz starts to be threatened and pc's with AMD inside will make there way into the office..... SO AMD MIGHT THINK THE SECOND HALF LOOKS BETTER>>> AND IT WELL MIGHT >>>> BUT MIGHT IS THE OPPORATIVE WORD>>>> AND INTEL IS MIGHTY>>>> I EXPECT THE FIGHT TO BE BLOODY>>> AND DEMAND TO BE WEAK>>>> AND THE COSTS TO BE HIGH >>>> AND THE PROFITS TO BE LOW>>> AND THE MUCH MALIGNED KURLACK TO BE RIGHT WHEN HE SAYS THAT INTEL'S STOCK WILL SEE THE LOW 60s... WHICH WILL COST ME BECAUSE I HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF INTEL IN MY IRA's BOUGHT MANY YEARS AGO. I have a story to tell... Today I was in the offices of a well known entertainment co... Outside the conference room a bunch of CPQ computers was stacked in boxes... so I asked... as one does "Wasss UPPP wit tha... the CFO smiled and said "Hey, for what goes on arround here I'm not gonna pay DEll $3000 for an intel inside biz model when I can buy these for $1200"
