Walter, I'm not sure who the "non-protocol" patients are, but it could be that they have not yet been treated long enough. Thus, if the protocol calls for 12 weeks of treatment, some patients may be included that have only been treated for 6 weeks so far and the responders are just the "immediate" responders and with time the final data for all of the patients could approximate the protocol-defined results, which are very impressive.

Another possibility is that the non-protocol patients had other complications due to AIDS and modified their dosing schedule for some reason.
