Commodore Environmental Services also owns approximately 43% of Commodore Applied Technologies, Inc. (Amex: CXI; CXIW). On October 5, 1997, Commodore Applied received its first commercial contract, a nuclear waste remediation project at the Weldon Spring, Mo., U.S. Department of Energy site. The contract was with site manager, Morrison Knudsen.
In December, Commodore Applied also signed agreements with ICF Kaiser and Lockheed Martin. The company also announced that its SET(TM) (solvated electron technology) process has successfully remediated mixed waste at Weldon Spring.
In Commodore Applied's other major market -- the neutralization of chemical weapons -- the company announced in February 1997 that its technology had successfully neutralized all components of assembled chemical weapons. In October, the Teledyne-Commodore, LLC, a 50-50 joint venture with Allegheny Teledyne, headed a team that was named a finalist in Alt Tech II, a $40 million program designed to find alternative technologies to incineration for the destruction of chemical weapons.
A decision on which technologies will be funded is expected to be made April 28, 1998.
