Hi Larry, I realize that due to my working at Metricom, people will be somewhat doubtful of what I am saying, and thats OK! That's even a GOOD thing if it results in some people calling one of their Electronic Engineer friends and asking some technical questions!
I guess I am just raising a warning flag, don't act one way or the other based on what I say, go ask another Engineer. and also...I really do not want to appear to be hyping MCOM, it is just that as an Engineer in this field, I like to hear tech FACTS about a system, and I have not heard many about MEME.
And, Yes, I admit that is gets me a little fired up when someone claims that they will do something better than MCOM, but does not back that up with valid technological approaches as to how they will do it.
As for picking up "any good data re: MEME technology" our technological approach is well defined and patented at this point. Changing our technological approach at this time would, in my opinion, be unlikely. If I were looking to acquire some tech info on MEME, I would not broadcast to the world that I work at Metricom, that would not make sense!
Is Metricom currently offering service? Yes, the service is available in the San Francisco Bay area ( Vallejo to Santa Cruz and east to Concord CA, the Seattle area and the Washington, DC area, as well as several universities around the country and many major airports. There is some level of Metricom's Ricochet service in 17 states. And to my knowledge, we have more subscribers in our service areas than CDPD does for the entire nation. And , yes, it works quite well. I get a consistent 33kbps at my apartment over our network.
