Why would Intel make their own SW? So they can push DVD into PCs, which makes the PC sell more, which means they sell more CPUs. Especially if it means the system requires a Pentium II to run the DVD software with sufficient overhead, all the better. This is no BS, Intel could eradicate Zoran within a year in the consumer PC space. It was not so long ago someone posted on this thread that the "second generation" Zoran SW was little more than a prettier user interface for FF/Rewind buttons etc.

It doesn't mean, of course, that Zoran goes out of business. There are still video add-in cards, and aren't they licensing SoftDVD to Microsoft for inclusion in Windows 98? But ultimately MSFT/INTC wins in the PC space, as always. ZRAN should concentrate on Japanese/Chinese/etc DVD player boxes where their HW/SW is the only thing in the box. There is too much HW power in a PC already (and no margin for more) for them to succeed long-term in that space.

Not to mention that the DVD market is not going to take off until DVD-recordable comes out. Is ZRAN working on a realtime encoder similar to CUBE, LSI, etc?
