The word says that in order for a man to know God he must first believe that He exists. That is faith that is needed, a belief that God exists without any physical proof (if the universe is not proof enough). No, it isn't. And what exactly do you mean by the Word? Do you accept the Barthian interpretation? The question of the Word is a ver tricky one. The bible actually offers very few hints.
