David,Larry, and all(I wonder why Alan is silent?)
I've done a little brushing up, and discovered a couple of things.
David, check it out. The 2.4ghz band is known as MMDS and was spectrum that was auctioned off by the FCC for wireless cable T.V. use. Over 65 Companies spent over 215 mil to obtain it. Only a few of them have made much use of it, but it's been done. Just last year though, the FCC ruled that it could be used for 2-way digital use.
P-com(pcms) is now selling full-duplex 2mbps! radios using direct spread spectrum modulation, with >10db of processing gain, for use in this 2.4ghz spectrum, which meet meet FCC regulations for UNLICENSED operation. These systems can use the same modems that are being built for cable internet access! They can cover(line of sight, I believe) 45 miles! After that, I'm guessing the 900mhz spectrum would be used by MEME for the last leg. VERY interesting indeed, eh? I think the fog may be clearing- comments? |
