Geoff, I agree with your letter. It indicates that the whole discussion is not about youth protection, but about money.

This morning I heard in the news a short piece of a congressmen's speech , who was talking about tabacco industry as criminals. No question the manipuation of the nicotine level in cigarettes was in my eyes a criminal act, but the whole discussion for me as an European viewer appears more like the battle Russia-USA in the cold war.
Somehow it appears, please don't take it by heart, that the American society always needs an enemy to defeat and is focusing all the agressions into one specific direction. After Russia fails to play this part and also Sadam Hussein already is defeated, the tabacco industry plays now this part.

I don't know what the public attitude is in this respect, but I think it also considers the tabacco industry as an enemy.

The whole thing seems to be a solely political issue and therefore I have the hope that if the lawsuits will take several years the political aspect will lose its dominance and a settlement will be more likely.
