Singer George Michael arrested
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 8 (UPI) Police say pop singer George Michael has been released on $500 bail after being arrested for engaging in a lewd act in the restroom of a Beverly Hills park.
Police Lt. Edward Kreins says Michael was participating alone in the lewd act Tuesday afternoon, but was aware he was being watched by men who were actually undercover officers.
The officers had been monitoring Will Rogers Park because of complaints by residents about activities there.
Michael gave officers his real name, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou.
He gained fame in the 1980s as half of the pop duo "Wham!," which had the hits "Young Guns (Go For It)," "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Careless Whisper."
Michael went on to a solo career after he and singing partner, Andrew Ridgeley, split in 1986.
His hits off his first album in 1987, "Faith," included "Father Figure" and "I Want Your Sex." His second album, "Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1," wasn't quite as successful in 1990. |
