Re: Earnings, IRAs, Volatility, Etc

A few thoughts. Perhaps those more experienced and knowledgeable would comment.

I guess we are generally confident that earnings expectations will be met, and this will be well regarded on WS. Any dissenting opinions?

April 15 is the end for 1997 IRA contributions. Last-minute rush? Will the flow of $ into the stock market then slow? Effect on RATL? Also USA income taxes due; that must be considered.

Looking back at the charts pre-oct '97, RATL used to be much more volatile than it has been the last few months. Here's a weekly chart which shows that, and also that the trend is currently in the right direction.

I wish I understood the forces which cause the ebb and flow of price. I have read that if a large position is being acquired the buyer will often buy some, then stand back to let the price settle back, then step up to buy a bit more, then back, etc. This could be a possible explanation for the sort of thing you describe. I'm sure there are lots of other possibilities.

I'm no expert. Just an over-payed grrl trying to figure out how to invest so as to provide for myself when I'm old (>30). Correction and instruction welcome.

best regards,

diana
