Some humor has been made about the Chinese satellite blackout. While Chinese press releases tend to translate into funny English, I have a couple of thoughts. Communists in general, and Chinese in particular have an aversion to open markets and ideas. The Chinese have shown the lengths they will go to in order to 'maintain order'. I do not believe it to be a stretch to consider that the government was/is responsible for the interference. Accepting a technology is much easier if they control the keys to shutting it off. The prime place to stop the in-flow of information is the satellite link. They would pick a sat that they controlled (through APT sat); a sat type that would supply a 'suspect' user group (nasty free market stockbrokers); one which most people would not notice was not working (pagers); and one they had a lot of operational information on and could access (as part owners, Chinese Military).

Not saying it happened but it would not surprise me. The investor's question is what would the rest of the world (investment community) think.

Food for thought
