Ballard Power Systems (BLDPF) has developed fuel cells which are so far ahead of other solutions to alternative power sources for motor vehicles that Diamler-Benz bought 25% of the common stock, and jointly invested $250 million with Ballard to create a new company, DBB Fuel Cell Engines. Ford, Chrysler, GM, Volvo, VW, and Honda have also purchased from Ballard. There are no earnings yet, and probably won't be for years. Nevertheless, the stock has run from $20 to over $120 in a year on the anticipation of big earnings to come, because the potential market is so huge. Comments?
