I heard once that the reason Freud tried to explain behavior in terms of sexual relationships with one's parents had to do with his clientele. He counseled primarily affluent, well-respected society types. Frequently, the children who he was counseling for emotional problems would tell him they were being molested. He couldn't believe these respectable men would do such a thing, so he assumed the kids were making it up and came up with psychological theories to explain it. Tom
