Dq, I would tend to agree with David. Manufacturers are promoting NT and UNIX and less of NetWare. The same is true for intranet software. 1990's is not the decade for NOVL as was the 1980's.

However, this does not imply the demise of NOVL in the immediate future. NOVL needs to work very hard at getting the message across...that NetWare is far superior to NT (for certain requirements)
and that running IntranetWare is the logical choice for existing NetWare shops as opposed to UNIX/NT based solutions. If you notice, MSFT, NSCP and SUNW are the only three companies gaining media attention lately. Poor NOVL has been left out in the cold.

Furthermore, I just found out that IBM is promoting Vinca Corps. Standby 2 server for server duplexing over NOVL's SFT III for NW 4.x. Is this surprising ? (Vinca is a company founded by Ray Noorda).

NOVL I believe held a conference over the last few days to introduce
the "new" NetWare for SAA (an IBM product). Critics argue that MSFT's mainframe connectivty solution is much better.....so what do we have ?
NOVL is losing much of its lustre in all areas of its business. It needs to work very hard to retain its current market share whilst boosting employee morale. A 10% - 20% wage raise for the "smart" NOVL employees is a good start as well as a brand new lincoln for the employees on this board who are doing their best to show a good face for NOVL. This should not cost NOVL too much as they do have a $1 billion cash which seems to be doing nothing at all when it should be increasing cash by at least 10%/year.
