re: I don't know if there was more that 1 method of DVD

Ken,
there are currently 3 different DVD formats competing.
The DVD consortimum can't even decide what to call the things.
Digital Video Disk or
Digital Versital Desk.

So far unit sales are way below projection.
If the DVD's sold today could not play and read CD-ROMS and music CD like todays ## X CD drives do, No one would buy them.

I love new tech. I love having the latest and the greatest.
But a DVD is not on any of my lists.
I am sure there are folks that want one.
I see the DVD as a VCR that plays only. I don't want movies with subtitles in 15 different languages. I don't want to pay extra for music CD that have all kinds of info on the "making of the CD"
I don't want to have to replace my entire CD collection that includes copies of 70% of the Vinal Records I have.
I have a 32" TV that is 2-3 years old, It is wonderful. My wife wouldn't let me get a bigger one :(
HDTV and DVD are great technologies, but I don't see mas consumer appeal for many years to come.

As for the storage capacity of DVD's for computers, How many titles out there come with more than one CD.
Not a lot. And those generaly have a lot of video footage on them.
Wing Commander 4 (6 CD-ROMS) was critized for too much movie and plot and not enough game.
Wing 5 I believe has only 4 CD-ROMS.(could be wrong on this one)
But I read that the developers cut down on the amount of Video and put in more game.

This is just one expample, but I don't think it is an exception to what what is wanted.

Net net, Why pay more for something that you have to go out of your way and spend even more to use when the alternative is of almost equal quality.

Jim
