From the Indianapolis Star this morning - (I'm typing this in) Conseco settles dispute with analyst Carmel, Ind. Conseco Inc. has settled its spat with New York analyst Ray Dirks. Terms of the March settlement, which ended Dirks' suit against the company, are confidential. Dirks said he is no longer covering the company and has taken his reports on Conseco off his Web site. Dirks, once a Conseco supporter, sued the company last year, saying that it owed him a $4.7 million finder's fee on one of Conseco's acquisitions. Conseco denied that Dirks helped find the company and refused to pay him. After that, Dirks published scathing reports on Conseco, even predicting in December that the company's stock would fall to $1 to $2 a share within a year. Dirks maintained that his lawsuit did not influence his reports on the company. My comments - this would explain the quiet removal of CNC from his web site. Clearly looks like the reporter got some if not all of the story from a contact at Conseco, judging from the bent on the story, etc. Nice to see CNC hold above 50 today. Regards to all, Randy
