Alan, a lot of scrap silver coins went the way of the smelter in the Hunt Bros runup. These coins will never return. It may be that the coin dealer was trying to guide you towards BU rolls or something else for which he may be able to pass a higher markup on to you. The other thing is that many coin dealers have been hosed by the precious metal markets for so long that they really don't trust anything other than collectable coins. (the prices of which are somewhat isolated from spot price fluctuations) Just some random thoughts on your coin dealers market assessment.
