AFTER THE BELL - Seaway up on Q2
results

NEW YORK, April 9 (Reuters) - Shares of Seaway Food Town Inc
rose 7/8 in after hours trading as the supermarket and drug store
company reported strong second quarter results.

Seaway traded at 28-1/4 after the bell, up from an unofficial settlement
of 27-1/8 on the Nasdaq Exchange.

The company reported second quarter earnings per share of $0.47
compared with $0.42 a year earlier.

Shares of Ascend Communications Inc (ASND - news) traded at
39-11/16 in after hours trading, up 3/16 from an unofficial settlement of
39-1/2.

Ascend reported first quarter earnings per diluted share of $0.26
compared with a loss of $0.88 per share.


Shares of computer chip maker Atmel Corp (ATML - news) traded at
18-1/8 after the bell, up 1/16 from their unofficial settlement of 18-1/16
on the Nasdaq exchange.

Atmel reported first quarter earnings per share of $0.18 compared with
earnings of $0.38 a year earlier. The First Call consensus estimate for
the quarter was $0.21.

The San Jose, Calif.-based company said bookings improved
throughout the first quarter.

Analysts expected Ascend to earn $0.25 per share during the first
quarter, according to Zacks Investment Research.


The New York Stock Exchange said session one trading volume was
584,600 compared with 566,000 during the prior session. Session two
volume was 1.93 million compared with 3.75 million during
Wednesday's second session.
