A little AC3 with your satelite TV................................

Meanwhile, DSS competitors EchoStar and Primestar are both working on systems that will add Dolby Digital capability to their services. EchoStar is working on an adapter that will connect to the IRD dataport to enable Dolby Digital delivery. Primestar plans to offer AC-3 capability to its new high-powered service, although initial receivers in the test rollout for the 119-degree DBS service later this month will not be AC-3 ready, according to a Primestar spokesperson. Details on that will be announced shortly.

DirecTv told TWICE in January that it was looking at offering AC-3 programming around midyear. This would probably involve pay-per-view programs, in a similar fashion to its plan for DSS-HD delivery, scheduled for later this fall. DSS-HD will also include AC-3 content. DirecTv could not comment on current plans at press time.
