Barry:
Your boss works for IBM, no? I wouldn't say that he is an impartial judge! IBM is well-known to be in bed with AMD, trying to prop up the rapidly failing near-corpse at every opportunity. Of course he would sing the praises of AMD! How could he not?
If IBM truly believed AMD is on the verge of success, it would put its money on the line, and make a capital infusion. This would have prevented AMD's debt rating from going into the gutter, which will shortly interfere with its efforts to raise reasonably-priced cash. It seems clear to me that IBM is simply hedging its bets, but in its heart of hearts knows that AMD is a lost cause.
