Flames, I believe Nancy was referring to the religious dogma, that Jesus was immaculately conceived by the Holy Spirit, before Joseph and her had consumated their martial obligations.

So, according to this belief, God is Jesus's father and Joseph is James's father, thus making them half-brothers. Mary is their mother, but they have different fathers.

If I am incorrect in this summation, I'm sure gracious Nancy will be kind in her correction.
