Christine:
I am especially pleased that you show such a interest in the Bible (I am not being sarcastic, I really mean it). I can understand why you might think the Gospels don't agree on everything and why you might think, therefore, they are in conflict. However, they are not inconsistent and they are not in conflict with each other. They have a consistent theme and the events can be reconciled one with another. Have you not read a harmony of the Gospels?
I did see the PBS two part series and was quite interested in it. However, I had already heard almost all of what they said. There is another side, however, that was not brought out in the PBS series. I have seen other series which featured theologians who gave the other side as well as some of the same ones on the PBS series. The PBS series took the position that the Gospels were written to conform to the times in which they were written and not to tell the story of the Lord. It was the other way around. They were written about the Lord and they apply to all times, even our time. They are as relevant today as they were 2,000 years ago. Therefore, from that standpoint, one could argue that they were only recently written -- and in a real sense they were!!
God bless you in your search for the truth.
