Jane, drums are a very, very old instrument, the oldest as far as I can recall, on earth. They have been used in every culture, pagan and Christian, since the beginning of time. The drums do not drown out anything--man as a species loves rhythm and chanting and dancing. In primitive peoples, they are also used to communicate from one small group to the next.
The songbirds are disappearing because the people on earth, as a group, have not taken pollution and other environmental concerns seriously enough. The explicit cause of the disappearance of the frogs and the birds is that the little worms and other small species they eat have been poisoned by all the pollution.
Modern pagans, interestingly enough, are in the forefront of the environmental movement, because they worship Earth as the mother. You may laugh at that, but this belief is sacred to pagans, who believe that if we destroy the earth, we will perish. While many Christians are also concerned about the environment, it is a Christian belief that we go somewhere after we die. Why devote your life to environmental concerns if you are waiting to go to a better place? So while some Christians focus on the next life, all pagans are reverential about this one, and the physical environment we all share.
Instead of blaming Satan, it is lack of concern by the companies who pollute, and lack of good, enforced environmental regulation which has caused this. Our government is afraid to come down too hard on large companies that pollute, because it might hurt our ability to compete in the global economy. And of course, when these businesses tire of the regulations we do have, they go pollute the third world, paying very minimal wages, and creating working conditions that are not nearly as good as ours here, so that they can continue to profit.
So, if in your mind set it is necessary that someone or something represent Satan, perhaps you should look at the American business community. The pagans are doing everything they can to stop the pollution that is killing all the precious birds and animals. |
