Dear Jonathan, Yes & I think the NYTimes is correct and other people are consuming disinformation created by FCC/Bell lobbyists, without thinking through longer-term issues.

One big issue: this is just the initial regulatory recommendation/action. It's the "camel's nose under the tent". The RBOCs wanted something along these lines for over 2 years.

If the FCC regulators (and Bell lobbyists) believed in open and free competition, they wouldn't be regulators (or Bell lobbyists). They live to regulate and by regulating even a portion of the Internet (to start), they've achieved a milestone success story they can brag about to their grandchildren.
