I like ORBI's approach to LEO commsats... message vs voice, keep the space segment simple and cheap, and use a bent pipe ground segment instead of sophisticated space crosslinks, etc. Iridium and similar systems are fancy, but at $3 per minute (which I think will be a buy-in, or subsidized price), I wonder how many subscribers they will get. And constellation replenishment is going to be a challenge. Until we get launch costs down and get smarter on mass producing LEO commsats, the ORBI approach is the way to go. JMHO.
