Irthrifty, Doug, and Mark,

What is your take on this? It seems as though maybe the Asian flu will help the pc and dd market in general in the long term. Has anyone heard anything else?

Hyundai Electronics to Withdraw From Making Computers
April 10, 1998 (SEOUL) -- After a decision to split off its PC manufacturing division in March, Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. announced April 8 that it will withdraw completely from the computer business.
Hyundai said it will shift the remaining information system division, which makes mainframes, to its sister company, Hyundai Information Tech. Co.

Our mainframe division secures advanced technology, which is in line with Hyundai's U.S. subsidiary, Axil Computer Inc., and we expect a high synergy effect by combining the division and system integration firm, said an official at Hyundai Electronics.

The information system division, which employs about 400 employees, had sales of 130 billion won (US$92.2 million) worth of mainframes, servers and workstations in 1997.
