I think that Medinah ended up getting a lot of claims that someone at Dayton would've liked. Someone before had speculated that Dayton was mining their low-grade, high cost ore in order to keep others out of the area.

MDIN seems to have made a big mess of their plans by buying up surrounding land... and putting a mill on site showed that MDIN wasn't just collecting claims in order to sell to DAY at a meager profit.
