Christine, I have one more thing to say on the subject of smoking and then I will quit.
This is not directed at anyone in particular and its very interesting because it comes from a very prominent respiratory specialist who is looking after my precious cuz. I am no expert with medical terms, so I will use my own words.
My cuz, who was, seemingly, the picture of health, a year before she quit smoking, couldn't understand why, her health just went downhill about 6 months after she quit. Her doctor explained to her, that the nicotine and other chemicals in cigs, was like a two-edged sword. They helped her breath, while destroying more of her lungs each day, all the while masking the problems they created. The damage didn't become apparent until after she had quit smoking for awhile and deprived her lungs off the effects of nicotine.
This may be where this new study that says, smoking helps people with asthma breathe better comes from.
Now, I'm not sure if I understood this correctly, maybe someone else knows more about it. I am just repeating what she said the specialist told her.
I hesitated to post this, because I don't want to get slammed by the smoking lobby. It's none of my business, who smokes and I'm not trying to convince anyone of the dangers of smoking. I just thought this was interesting information and I had never heard of such a thing before, associated with smoking.
