My thinking is that when your stock is up pretty good, that is the time
to do a public offering. If the Phase III results for amylin are not too
good then obviously the stock price would tank and the company
would have to go through some serious shareholder dilution to get
the same amount of funds. No they probably don't need the cash
due to the partnership with J&J but JUST IN CASE if the phase III
results are bad they may no longer have J&J to back them so they
want a decent cash hoard now to insure them for the future. And now
with the stock price at a decent level, they have decided to do it
which is probably a good idea especially if you're investing in Amylin
for the long-term.
