Hi Spots, there's a guy by the name of Donald Dorsey who has (FWIW) degrees in physics, math, and chemistry that has developed indicators along the lines of your post. Not exactly the same, but similar. I'm going from memory, but I think he has the Mass Index and the Inertia Index to his credit, and Alexander Elder has the Force index. There are many different "momentum" indicators, and a couple derivative and second derivative-based indicators also. Dorsey doesn't have a book out, so the only place to get any details of his indicators is in "Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities." Also, many indicators are "inappropriately named," so when you get the details of the implementations, you often ask yourself, self, why is this called (for example) a stochastic oscillator? If you want more details on any of these, let me know and I'll search through my stacks of papers and find them.
