Hi Doug - I guess it boils down to how secure is secure. I believe RSA put out a challenge to defeat 128 bit encryption and it was. In fairness, I think that they put out that challenge hoping that it would be defeated thereby forcing the US Gov't to allow higher levels of encryption.

I believe that this is more of a marketing issue. Look at the PC market. Most people who do modest Word Processing and Spreadsheet work could easily get by with a 286. But we get seduced by faster, stronger, higher etc. At home, until about a week ago, I was using a 486 with a 66 clock speed. Now I've got a Pentium and, yes, it's a little faster, but, for what I do, it's not all that necessary.

My point is that people want the best even if they absolutely don't need it. If Jaws can sign a licensing agreement with Compaq, for example, don't you think that Compaq is going to be saying something like "If you buy our computer, you're buying the most secure PC in the world." The average guy out there might not even know what that means but it'll sound awfully good.
