well looks like more merger mania Monday in the banks. (from the Matt Drudge report. WSJ also has come out w/ article on the Bank America merger) MONSTER BANK MERGERS SET FOR MONDAY The NEW YORK TIMES is set to report that NATIONSBANK CORP. and BANKAMERICA CORP. will announce marriage on Monday, creating the nation's first coast-to-coast bank, and the largest in terms of total branches and deposits. NATIONSBANKBANKAMERICA, first of two huge banking mergers expected in coming days, accelerates a wave of consolidations that will leave the banking industry with a few monster powerhouses. The second deal, BANC ONE CORP. with FIRST CHICAGO NBE CORP., would create the fifth-largest bank in terms of assets.
