I believe the following may explain SONY's actions. First, they are quite but not absolutely confident that the built-in 100MB read/write removeable medium is here to stay, and since Iomega is the current leader, then that is who they go with. Basically, it allows them to test and retest the market over time. When their own gizmo becomes available then they will offer the choice of one or the other. They have learned their lesson over Beta, and will not commit themselves ahead of time to a particular format. After that they may either drop both, or one or the other, or carry on offering both as options. This is how real-world business works.
