I erroneously stated that conventional PAP smear screening methods are able to detect a certain percentage of certain types of HPV virus which is considered to be contributory to 93% of all cervical cancer.

The Pap smear does not detect (directly) the presence of HPV. Pap smears only allow the clinician to identify women with overt signs of cervical disease....not those who are infected with certain potential cancer-causing types of HPV. Some cervical disease ridden women may reveal no overt signs of cancer in a PAP diagnosis. An HPV presence however may mean there is a stronger likelihood that they develop cervical cancer or advanced cervical lesions in the future.

The accuracy of conventional Pap smears in the detection of cervical disease is currently being questioned and the range of sensitivity employing its use is subject to the various parties making the claim.

Please disregard the statement in post #1629.:

<Current PAP smear screening methods are supposedly only able to detect 70% - 75% of HPV virus.<>

It should have read current PAP smear screening methods are according to some only able to detect in the vicinity of 70%- 75% of cervical disease and not HPV virus.

Sorry about the error and any confusion. Cisco.... is this a fifteen yard or five yard penalty?
