GETTING FILTHY RICH:
Music stores. Cowles/Simba Information reports
revenue for the top five music Web sites leaped from
$21.5 million in 1996 to $52 million at the end of 1997 --
a 141.9% increase.

Software stores. By the year 2001, according to
Forrester Research Inc., more than $3.7 billion worth of
computer products will be sold in cyberspace.

Online auctioneers. Tapping into the greedy streak in
human nature, online auctioneers are making it big.
Consider that pioneer Onsale reported a record 1997
Q4 revenue, along with a 277% jump in gross
merchandise sales from a year earlier. Or check out
eBay, with 325,000 auctions every day, 600,000
registered users and 8 million page views every day.
